More about the 1997 and 1999 Hatchet Runions

In May 1997, The GW Hatchet set up a designated scholarship fund within the George Washington University's endowment. This fund will benefit future editors and staff of the twice-weekly student newspaper, under the direction of The Hatchet's Board of Directors.

The four-year campaign launched has a $500,000 goal to assure permanent resources for the student paper's staff as it approaches its second century. The editors and staff of The GW Hatchet work long, hard hours to produce the campus' award winning newspaper - and many give up the opportunity for outside jobs and internships. Scholarship assistance is one way to assure this 95 year old tradition continues with its current high quality well into the next century.

Founded in 1904, The GW Hatchet incorporated as an independent non-profit organization in 1993. With a twice weekly circulation of 10,000 copies, it is the largest student newspaper in the nation's capital. The newspaper employs state-of-the-art computers and desktop publishing technology to produce a consistently popular and highly-read newspaper. The Hatchet' s Website is a growing resource to the campus and alumni communities.
